Sabina De Geest is a nurse with clinical specialization in cardiac transplantation who started as the first Advanced Practice Nurse in the UZ Leuven in the Leuven heart transplant program. She obtained her Master’s and PhD of the KU Leuven and is currently a Professor of Nursing at KU Leuven (part-time) and at the University of Basel in Switzerland. She has several adjunct appointments at Schools of Nursing in the US (e.g. Johns Hopkins University, New York University, University of Pittsburgh) and in Australia (University of Technology, Sydney). She co-leads the Leuven Basel Adherence Research Group, an international, interdisciplinary research group focusing on behavioural and psychosocial issues in chronically ill as well as care models in chronically ill patient populations (e.g., solid organ & stem cell transplantation), with the ultimate goal of improving behavioural and clinical outcomes. Research is currently conducted in Europe, Australia and North- & South-America.
