Pieter Heeren is a registered nurse and obtained a Master of Science in Health Care Management and Policy in 2012. His clinical and scientific activities focus on geriatric care with special interests for comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA). From January 2013 to September 2017, he combined a clinical appointment as a nurse in University Hospitals Leuven with project assignments in collaboration with AccentVV. He was research assistant in the GOP project (Geriatric Oncology Project) and project manager of the URGENT project (Unplanned readmission prevention by Geriatric Emergency Network for Transitional care). His PhD research focusses on aspects of a model for geriatric emergency care. Research Foundation Flanders (FWO) granted Pieter Heeren a PhD fellowship to perform his doctoral studies on a fulltime basis.
