Fouke Ombelet

After her Bachelor in Nursing, Fouke Ombelet obtained a postgraduate degree in Tropical Medicine and a Master in Nursing and Midwifery. She worked as a nurse at the Department of Neurology and Internal Medicine at UZ Leuven, as a care coordinator at the multidisciplinary neuromuscular reference center and as a research coordinator for the TASTE clinical trial, a study within stroke care in Australia. In 2016, she started a doctoral research at AccentVV on the organization of care for patients with congenital heart disease and its impact on morbidity, mortality and health care use under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Philip Moons. 

After successfully obtaining her PhD in 2020, Fouke started part-time as a nursing consultant neuromuscular disorders at UZ Leuven and part-time as a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Brain and Disease Research (VIB-KULeuven) under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Philip Van Damme, where she researches the timing of interventions in patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.
